The My Mark 61 Cattle Company LLC is processed and distributed by RMI (Ranchers Meat, Incorporated).
Ranchers Meat is under new management! Emory Davis is a rancher and business professional with years of experience in the agricultural industry.
From attending and working at Prairie View A&M University to running his own ranch on family-owned land, Emory has always maintained a love for the agricultural industry. While working in the medical industry for a while, he noticed that food is an important factor in our overall health.
In 2018, Emory set out with a goal of making it easier for people to get access to quality food. The work involved with raising his own cattle and processing his own beef was arduous, but worth all the struggle. He began by branding his meat under his “My Mark 61” brand and selling it at local farmer’s markets in the Houston metropolitan area.
The term “My Mark” references the fact that many Africans in America were not allowed to read or write, so they would make their “mark” to identify themselves. The “61” comes from the number he used when he played football for Prairie View University.
During the pandemic of 2020-2021 things were rough for the business because most farmer’s markets shut down. However, people still wanted to have a deeper knowledge of where their food comes from and how it is handled. He was able to persevere and survive the pandemic lull in business.
Due to his close friendships, he was able to acquire land in Waller County and move his herd there. After a somewhat rough beginning, he was able to also lease a space in Austin County just outside of Waller County for meat processing. He now supports other meat producers and is a member of the 100 Ranchers, Southwest Meat Association, and Texas Southwest Cattle Raisers Association
Food deserts are urban areas void of access to quality food. We support several farmer’s markets and initiatives dedicated to ending the food desert effect in the Houston metro area.
